I have just had the same problem with no sound on BB9700 Bold.
I took your advice and took the battery out and put it in again and let it boot up and now the sound is working. Lets hope problem is fixed now. I have had this problem for a couple of days. Sound goes off at night and has been coming on at about 9.30 in the morning again.
I rebooted the blackberry, the sounds and ringtones came back...but after a few minutes, I tried it again...and the sounds are gone again!!! So do I have to keep rebooting every few minutes?!@!!!! This is very annoying!
I thought there wasn't gonna be any resolution to the muteness of my BB. I was already planning to dispose it and get a new one. But thanks to your bright idea, i got it ringing and playing sounds again!
I had this issue on my blackberry bold and found if I took the back cover off the phone, there is a small grey metal piece around the camera lens, if you lift this up a bit your sound will come back. My long term solution was to put a tiny piece of cardboard or folded paper under it. Its been working now for about 8 months.
