Hi I am new on here and a new BB user.

I was having a few problems with the orignal software so tried upgrading using the link above.

all was going fine until the installation of the applications from the desktop software and the phone just froze for ages.

I gave it over an hour and still nothing....managed to get the upgraded software on eventually....however all messages, contacts etc have been erased from the phone....is that normally the case? and is there a way retrieve all this information??

Download the Rogers version of .162 and deleting the Vendor it shouldn't affect you at all if your phone is with Rogers.

Deleting the Vendor.Xml will allow let's say a Vodaphone, Orange, or any other non-rogers phone to upgrade to .162.

is there anything that i can do to retrieve the information?

everytime i try to connect the phone via usb now the desktop manager doesnt recognise the device as in it says no device connected

TROOPA:

 

Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion and run the LOADER.EXE file.

Does the device come up as USB UNKNOWN or USB <PIN>?

Thanks phybersplice for your help!

I have somehow managed to retrieve all the information and have to latest software updated.

but now have a smaller issue of not being able to use the browser....The message keeps saying this is a Wi-Fi service etc...

but I also have the Wi-Fi symbol on where the reception bars are.

 

With the orignal software I had no problems with the browser....do u know wat i could do to resolve this issue?

I have an unlocked version and downloaded the upgrade from Rogers website but did not know about the Vendor file.  I did not delet it and ran the upgrade without any problems.  I can see now I have version .162. 

Will I have any problems if I did not erase the Vendor file??

I find service books in settings under Advanced Options.  I've also seen an option for service books on my provider blackberry website (www.<providername>.blackberry.com), where you can set up email, change your device etc..  Follow the link to Service Books and it tells you to resend if you're having difficulty with email.  Hope it works for you!
