New user question. Tethering/ Broadcasting a connection

So I have a new user question as I didnt see it in the manual for the Bold.

I know you can tether the blackberry bold through bluetooth and by using the usb wire.

The question is can I just broadcast using the phone to create a wireless connection i can use with a laptop like the iphone?

Thanks.

Re: New user question. Tethering/ Broadcasting a connection

Yes.

So wondering if there is a way for the Bold to broadcast a wireless signal for use by a laptop. Basically using the phone as a modem.

The reason I am asking is I know we can tether but my friend has an Iphone and he can actually just broadcast.

Re: New user question. Tethering/ Broadcasting a connection

Isn't tethering done either by USB or by Bluetooth (once paired)?  I think what he wants to do is have his blackberry become a wifi access point for nearby laptops.  Is this correct?

Re: New user question. Tethering/ Broadcasting a connection

I'm looking for this too. It's using your phone to make a connection to the net either over GPRS or 3G and then turning itself into a wi-fi hotspot.

There is a program called JoikuSpot that does this for S60 and Windows Mobile devices but they don't have a BlackBerry version. If anyone knows of an alternative I'd love to hear about it.
