Why the glitch? Who knows, but you got it settled.

 

(As for the snow and ice in ATL, I'm in Birmingham, and we've had a very pleasant winter so far!)

I followed the steps you outlined but also got stuck at the Resend Service Books, as I wasn't getting the options that were shown in the instructions.  So I skipped to the bottom and went to mobile.blackberry.com and was able to fix the problem in about 10 minutes.
