Not receiving text when Mobile Hotspot activated

I tried using the mobile hotspot today and it worked great!  was able to use my tablet while running around doing my work errands... until I realized that although I continued to receive my emails and was able to browse websites... I hadn't received a single text message all day long.

 

After work I disconnected the mobile hotspot, called my friends I had texted during the day... they all confirmed they received my texts and texted me back.  My Blackberry 9900 didn't register a single text message.

 

I tested it out just now to be sure:  activated the mobile hotspot, had my boyfriend text me - no text received.  Turned off the mobile hotspot, had him text me... text received.

 

What is going on?  Is there something in the settings I can do about this?
