Re: OS6 Memory Leaks

Happened to see your advice

"In the meantime, it will behoove you to perform regular maintance of your device to keep your memory as clean as possible.  This includes deleting text and e-mail messages, clearing out your call log, clearing your browser cache, clearing your event log, utilizing the on-board memory cleaner and making sure all applications you aren't using are closed down properly, or even deleting the application altogether if you no longer use it."

sorry, i'm relatively new to the BB world. i have a bold 9650 w os6. i'm interested in what types of maintenance that you mention.  how do i clear my phone call log? other that deleting each entry manually i don't know how to do this. how do i use my "on board memory cleaner" or "clear out my browser cache"?

i did see a post about an app called "quickpull" and installed it. it will reboot just like pulling the battery. have it set for middle of the night.  have to admit i haven't had to pull my battery very often; maybe once in a couple weeks time.  do you think that i even need the app?

i'm hoping you can help.  i appreciate anything that you can do.

Re: OS6 Memory Leaks

Hi, I'm not sure where to clear logs etc. But I do these things:

  • Automatically clear emails after 15days. (Go to Messages, press Menu key, Options, Message Display and Actions, scroll to the bottom and change Days To Keep Messages to 15days)
  • Install a memory booster app. I use MemoryBooster 4.1.0. It's collects any leaked memory and deletes it, freeing up memory on your device. This app costs a few $$, there are some free ones that might work just as well.

I don't pull my battery to clear memory. MemoryBooster clears memory just fine. It also shows the current state of your memory.

Re: OS6 Memory Leaks

Generally speaking, I don't have the time nor the energy to register on a forum and start posting. However, this memory leak issue with BlackBerry deserves some serious bashing. No disrespect to my fellow posters here, but suggesting solutions such as removing applications, pulling the battery or downloading an app to simulate the battery pull, cleaning your browser and closing apps, is REALLY ridiculous. Blackberry is supposed to be a sofisticated and quite pricey "smart" phone, and in theory (and as advertised), should easily be running tons of apps, handling heavy data sites, etc.

Ever since I was forced to upgrade with T-Mobile to OS6, the only good thing about the phone is that it looks a little nicer... Something I really don't care about, or I would have bought an iPhone... It took me a few weeks to realize what's going on, and a few ncidents where the phone run out of memory and deleted ALL my work emails! I was mortified! The ONE thing I need this phone for, is work emails... I don't play games, listen to music or watch videos... And whats the default solution when the phone leaks all it's memory without your knowledge? To simply delete everything that's important.

Shame on RIM... This has been going on for months on end, and they have done absolutely NOTHING to address it. They just keep putting out **bleep** phones, instead or releasesing a new version to fix this issue...

I hope they go out of business when iPhone 5 comes out. Their customer service is horrible, and their technology moves at snails pace. They made me hate my phone and wish I had an iPhone. And if you know me, you know how much I hate iPhones...!!

Re: OS6 Memory Leaks

The problem it that they should not make phone with so little memory for apps.  Also I did have a nokia E71 and it let you install some app in the external memory slot, it helps a lot.

For the other that suggest to unistall the blackberry msg app, if I have to do this, I would not use a blackberry phone far.
