Welcome to the Forums!
Memory leaks have been inherent issue with BlackBerrys for years, but something that seems to have been somewhat resolved with the newere OS's and devices.
I'm sure you saw no such issue with the 5.0 OS on your device, or at least minimal at best.
Because OS 6 was not really designed for for "older" devices, it appears they haven't been able to address the leakage problem (yet), however I am sure as new releases arrive, they will minimize the drain as best as they can.
In the meantime, it will behoove you to perform regular maintance of your device to keep your memory as clean as possible. This includes deleting text and e-mail messages, clearing out your call log, clearing your browser cache, clearing your event log, utilizing the on-board memory cleaner and making sure all applications you aren't using are closed down properly, or even deleting the application altogether if you no longer use it.
You can view applications that are currently running by pressing and holding the BB menu button, then scroll to whichever app you wish shut down. Shutting an app down usually requires you to press the BB menu button while in the app and choosing "Close" or "Exit."
Please post back if you need help with any of the above options.

I meant to include the good ol' battery pull in my instructions, 00bunge00.
Thanks for adding that to the list.
I've used QuickPull for years and couldn't live without it. ![]()

The memory leak on my Bold 9700 is much improved after removing Blackberry Messenger. After installing OS 6 my free memory dropped from 80MB to 51MB, but that can be attributed to the size of the operating system. However, after just a few hours with OS 6 the memory was down to 30MB. When it drops this low, you start getting error messages that there isn't enough memory for certain web pages to load. The new Browser has multiple tab capability, which might be nice, but you can't enjoy it unless you have enough memory, 40MB minimum. I tried uninstalling everything but the OS itself and finally, BB Messenger was the culprit. Now, after a battery pull, I have 57MB. After web browsing, FaceBook, text messaging, and checking the weather with ACCUWeather, I still have 49MB. That isn't as bad as before, with BB Messenger installed. Clearly there is an issue with BB Messenger in OS 6. I hope Blackberry will fix this, but I can live without BB Messenger. However, little by little, as cool Blackberry Apps become unusable, I am leaning more and more toward an Android phone. I can text and MMS instead of BB Messenger, plus I can view any type of video with Android, and on a larger screen. MSN mobile news site videos no longer play with OS 6. They did play with OS 5.
There are enough improvements with OS 6 to justify keeping it, but my confidence in RIM is eroding. If Blackberry doesn't soon correct these memory leaks and improve the video capabilities, I will probably move to an Android-based phone. I have enjoyed Blackberry devices since 2008, but RIM just doesn't seem capable of keeping up with the competition.

Removed BB Messenger from my Bold 9700 OS6 because we don't use it and gained the 3MB it occupied, but memory still leaks 2MB every hour. We have another, identical phone without all of the apps I have, and it does not have a memory leak. There are too many apps, with too many passwords and too much customization and data that I'm not going to go through one-by-one, then in combination, to find which apps alone and jointly cause the leak. BB and AT&T have considerably more resources than I who can do this kind of testing.
If someone has nothing better to do and would like to compile lists of apps many of us with this problem have, then cross reference them to find a common app, I would gladly submit a list of what's on my phone.

Hi,
I just upgraded my Pearl 9100 to version 6.0 Bundle 2646 (v6.0.0.600, Platform 6.6.0.223) and it's leaking memory pretty bad. After rebooting the device it uses more than 50MB of the 65MB available and for the first few hours it creeps up to the max in a few minutes and then the OS runs some cleanup after which the memory drops back to somewhere around 55MB only to start creeping up again. This settles down after a few hours but memory keeps leaking. This is without loading any apps, other than the default five plus MemoryBooster 4.1 which shows the memory leaking. (The cleanup of the memory is done by the OS not by MemoryBooster). This constant leaking and cleaning drains my battery and the device becomes sluggish whenever the memory fills up.
Has anyone else seen such problems? I talked to Blackberry support and they said that the device was broken and needed replacing. That's a bit odd, since I didn't have issues with OS 5.0. Is the device broken? I doubt Bell with replace it. Goodwill is not something they've shown in my experience.

Shame on RIM for telling you there's something wrong with your device. There is nothing wrong with it. There is, however, something wrong with OS6 and some of the apps which haven't been upgraded to work with it on older BB's.
My wife and I both have Bold 9700s. She has few apps and her memory loss is very slight--takes several weeks before a reboot is required. I have many synchronizing apps and functions that check online periodically. When I first installed OS6, I had to reboot about every 4 hours. I started deleting some apps and now I reboot once a day.
You may not want to start over and delete everything at once, adding them back one at a time, but do take a look at what you're running and delete one or two apps to see if they make a difference. Eventuall you'll work your way down to the 2 or 3 causing most of the trouble.
