Hi

I have a rather embarrassing problem here I just put a password into my phone to protect it if I leave it in the wrong place.  That pass word is 4479.  When I plugged my 9700 in my computer to sycronize my outlook the computer asked me for the password and did not recognize 4478.  After a couple of try's I unplugged the phone from the computer and now the phone will not unlock with the password 4478.  I have used up all my try's and my phone is threatening to lose information.

Welcome to the forums. 

Sorry to hear about your issue. If you did not hold down the ALT key while creating your password then your password is not in fact 4479 or 4478 (you make reference to both numbers in your post) but your password is actually sszc (4479) or sszx (4478).
