Do you have the blackberry desktop software installed?

If not, install this first.

Yes, thanks. Blackberry desktop software is installed but something appears to be blocking the driver from loading.
Thanks again

Try this:
Download and install ccleaner.
http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner
Uninstall the desktop manager.
If the folder C:\Program Files\Research In Motion is there after the uninstall, delete the Research In Motion folder.
Open the registry editor: Click start, type regedit in the search box and hit enter
The User Account Control asks you to authorize access by clicking Continue.
With the registry editor open, click edit and choose find. Type "research in motion" without the quotes and click find next.
On each entry found right click and choose delete.
Hit the f3 key to look for the next instance of the entry, delete and repeat until all entries are gone.
Close the registry editor.
Open ccleaner
Click the regsitry button, click scan for issues.
Click Fix selected issues. Backing up the file is up to you, but I never do it. rescan until there are no more problems found.
reboot
download and install the latest version of the desktop manager from
http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/
Open the program, connect the phone and see what happens.
If this doesn't work, I'm wondering if there is another computer you can test using the desktop manager and phone?
That would eliminate the usb cable and the phone having a possible issue.
If it does work on another computer, then you'll have to contact Microsoft or reload your operationg system.

Thanks again. Went through process but no luck. Guess I'll need to re-load Windows OS as it does work on another computer. Really grateful for the time you took.
Thanks again

Not sure what else to recommend. Keep us posted. At least you got a good cleanup tool out of the deal.

Heres what I did.
I know this is late and all!
I had my playbook connected and I switched the "auto" to "Connect to windows" or vise versa in the playbook's settings. And The CD driver for the playbook showed up and it works!
HIT LIKE IF THIS HELPS. Sure did help me!
