It should work but you may have to go to the dealership if you contacted ford over the phone for support.
You may also want to verify that you have the latest software on your phone. It should work with what you have now, but just in case, here is the link:

It's definitely my phone...I can send a text through Sync. And it did actually work a couple of weeks ago. When I look at my MAP options for bluetooth, my email is checked, SMS/MMS is checked. New message notifications is checked, however, the box to the right has a red X in it and I can't seem to change it. I'm wondering if that is the problem.
Also, and I'm not sure why, I downloaded the software but I can't get it on to my desktop.

To reload your software, you can try this guide.
I can't guarantee this will work...but having the latest software on the device won't hurt.
