Unbranded 9900 with orange UK

I have bought an unbranded 9900 with Orange UK contract but can't get UMA working.  Vendor (phones4u) seem clueless as they told me it would work.  Orange just say it has to be orange branded phone but don't see the connection there since it's a firmware enabling, I think, to allow UMA to work on 9900(?)  I have downloaded OS 7.0 and in process of installing - just wondered if anyone , anywhere really understands this technology and can give definitive answer!

Yes, it must be branded Orange.

Look at your VendorID on the device located by doing this:

On the Keyboard, press ALT + Shift + H, all three keys at the same time, to enter the Help Me! screen.

What is the vendor ID?

DOL?

The VendorID should be a number, normally three digits.

Re: Unbranded 9900 with orange UK

Oh, funny because I bought from Phones4U.  I suppose doesn't change anything - it's still useless at home as no signal here.  Have 9700 and initally got that working over UMA (with orange sim) but since then I can't get it to work either with orange sim or Tmobile (PAYG), odd, only thing I did do was have it unblocked as it had been a vodafone contract last year.

Re: Unbranded 9900 with orange UK

Can I ask: what is the difference between branded and unbranded phones, surely same architecture?  Or is firmware different?

Re: Unbranded 9900 with orange UK

It's really not "unbranded" as the VendorID indicates. It just doesn't have a faceplace with a mobile brand upon it.
