Unknown Icon

I have an icon that looks like a gray envelope with a red ciricle and a number inside the circle. I can't find out anywhere what this indiciates. It's not my email/sms indicator either. I've had the phone for 2 years now and have never seen this icon before. I've also not installed anything recently.
