Unlocked blackberry always on roaming status

Hi there, I just got a Telus Blackberry 9700 unlocked.  I am currently running it on a Fido network.  I just noticed that there is a red triangle next to my network name (Fido) which I have been told to mean roaming.  Also, I can't use my data unless I have roaming turned on.

Why is this happening?  Is it because of a Telus blackberry on a Fido network?  I'm worried about roaming charges.

thank you

Re: Unlocked blackberry always on roaming status

Hi vicbbt86

Please be patient as this is a user to user forum.

in regards to networks, you can try this;

 1. On the Home screen, click the Manage Connections icon.
2. Click Mobile Network Options.
3. Change the Network Selection Mode field to Manual.
4. Click Scan for Available Networks.
5. Click a wireless network.
6. Click Select Network.
7. Press the Menu key.
8. Click Save.
To connect to your wireless service provider's wireless network again, change the Network Selection Mode field to Automatic.

Now for Data Roaming;

1. On the Home screen, click the Manage Connections icon.
2. Click Mobile Network Options.
3. Perform one of the following actions:
• To turn on or turn off data service, change the Data Services field.
• To turn on or turn off data service when roaming, change the While Roaming field.
• To receive a prompt when roaming that allows you to turn on or turn off data service, change the While Roaming field to Prompt.
4. Press the Menu key.
5. Click Save.

You can also set a preferred network to connect to;

 Depending on your wireless service plan, this feature might not be supported.
1. On the Home screen, click the Manage Connections icon.
2. Click Mobile Network Options.
3. Press the Menu key.
4. Click My Preferred Network List.
5. Press the Menu key.
6. Click Add Network.
7. Perform one of the following actions:
• To scan for a wireless network to add, click Select From Available Networks. Click a wireless network. Click Select Network.
• To scan for a wireless network that is already known to your device, click Select From Known Networks. Click a wireless network.
Click Select Network.
• To add a wireless network, click Manual Entry. Set the priority for the wireless network. Type the MCC and MNC.
8. Press the Menu key.

Hope this helps a bit
