Various issues with 9930

[ Edited ]

Hi. My Blackberry 9930 will update to OS 7.1 but the keypad work. I've tried updating to different builds of the OS 7.1 but the same thing keeps happening. what can I do?!

Before that, I do not get '3G' reception in Abuja, Nigeria. I have tried all GSM service providers in the country to no avail...what can I do?!

Hello,

A -- your questions are completely off topic to this thread, and therefore should be in a thread of their own.

B -- you say you have a 9930, but your profile says 9530...which is it please? (So that we can know the proper forum to have your off-topic post split off to).

Thanks!

On one hand, finding exact topics to problems in this forum, is tasking and frustrating. I couldn't find the button to start a new topic, so, I posted on the first topic I saw with as similar a problem as I have...

Secondly, the device I have is a 9930 and not 9530...maybe you read the profile wrong! I'd appreciate the push to "..the proper forum..", if you don't mind!

OK...9930...I'll ask that it be moved.

FYI at the top of each forum list is a "New Message" button...that's how you start a new thread.

I did not read your profile wrong...here is a screen shot from it from your post:

Re: Various issues with 9930

OK...now that you have your own thread, let's move on...first, to clarify:

I cannot tell, from those words, what is happening. You say "the keypad work"...if the keypad is working fine, then what is the problem? If it is not working fine, then please provide details.

But, as a guess -- often, keypad issues are related to moisture damage. Any chance of that? If so, then

REMOVE YOUR BB BATTERY NOW!!!

Run, don't walk, to this FAQ:

Do everything it says, including waiting the maximum recommended time. Applying power to your BB between it getting wet and doing this process reduces the chances of success. Further, the only thing predictable about moisture intrusion into a BB (indeed, any electronic device) is that the results will be unpredictable. I've seen some come back up right away and be fine. I've seen others never work at all. I've seen still others run for a bit, and then die later. And every thing in between.

If on the other hand, there is no chance of your BB having been damaged by moisture, then a complete description of what the issues are may help us to narrow down the cause.

Have you tried Safe Mode?

  • KB17877 How to start a BlackBerry smartphone in Safe Mode

It may take you multiple attempts to get the ESC key sequence (press/release/hold) correct, so be patient. When successfully into Safe Mode, if the behavior does not re-appear, then think carefully...what happened just before this behavior started? A new app? An update? A Theme? Something else? Think carefully as the smallest change could be causal...and attempt to undo whatever that was.

If, however, the behavior continues in Safe Mode, then there may be some other cause...but again awaiting a more complete description of your symptoms.

It may be that your specific BB radio capabilities are not compatible with those of the carriers in your region. There are many different kinds of 3G...it is the specifics underneath that which will determine what your specific BB is capable on their networks. I'd recommend talking to the network operators about this so as to determine if your specific BB is compatible with their networks or not.

Good luck and let us know!
