Re: WMA files on Blackberry Bold 9900 not working

The Rogers person for tech support was pleasant but could not help on this.  She said that they were there to make sure the Blackberry was properly working on the network (e-mail etc ) and that music support was a RIM issue.

I tried one last thing and formatted my micro sd card on the blackberry, which is probably a good thing anyway to make sure it works optimally on my blackberry.  I reloaded an WMA album and still no go.  I will go to a Rogers store and see if they will let me put my sd card into a 9900 to see whether or not it will work in another 9900.

Unfortunately, that is incorrect. Your only mode of support is through your carrier. If they can't solve it they should escalate your case to RIM. That's how you get RIM support. Call them back.

Re: WMA files on Blackberry Bold 9900 not working

I know mp3 files do work but WMA files should work also. They work on a two year old 8900 with OS 6 (they also worked on my 9000) so should work with the current top of the line 9900 running OS7.1. I strongly suspect a hardware issue. I should not have to compromise on a 2 month old Blackberry.

Re: WMA files on Blackberry Bold 9900 not working

I tried my micro sd card in a 9900 in a Rogers Wireless store this morning with the same result.  It would not play WMA files. These files play just fine on my 9800.  Notwithstanding that RIM says that the Bold 9900 supports WMA files it appears that it does not.  They may have inadvertantly dropped the WMA codec in 7.1  As noted above I have used three versions of os 7.1 with the same result - no WMA audio support.

As mp3 appears to be universally supported, I will convert to MP3. Some of my music files are mp3 and they work just fine on my 9900.  Any recommended conversion programs to convert from WMA to mp3?

Re: WMA files on Blackberry Bold 9900 not working

Thank you.
However, before I had your reply, I went on-line tried one programe recomended on blackberryforums.com which I couldn't get to work, then I downloaded iTunes which converted wma to AAC which plays just fine on my 9900. However, iTunes in the converson process does not import the album art so I have to use music sync with windows medio player on bbdesktop as default player in order to get the album art on my 9900. Then chose iTunes as default player in device options/media in bbdesktop and import the AAC audio files. Finally I pull up the music player on my 9900 and delete the WMA duplicate album on my 9900.

Re: WMA files on Blackberry Bold 9900 not working

By the way, in additiom to the wma files working without a problem on my 8900 with os 6.0 as noted above, these wma files also work perfectly fine on my PlayBook with os2 and previously with os 1.
I have had three different versions of os 7.1 (the latest being 7.1.0.391) and none have played wma files. I think there is a flaw in os 7.1.

Re: WMA files on Blackberry Bold 9900 not working

I agree. I probably should have just re-ripped the dozen or so albums from my cd collection to mp3.
