The Rogers person for tech support was pleasant but could not help on this. She said that they were there to make sure the Blackberry was properly working on the network (e-mail etc ) and that music support was a RIM issue.
I tried one last thing and formatted my micro sd card on the blackberry, which is probably a good thing anyway to make sure it works optimally on my blackberry. I reloaded an WMA album and still no go. I will go to a Rogers store and see if they will let me put my sd card into a 9900 to see whether or not it will work in another 9900.

I tried my micro sd card in a 9900 in a Rogers Wireless store this morning with the same result. It would not play WMA files. These files play just fine on my 9800. Notwithstanding that RIM says that the Bold 9900 supports WMA files it appears that it does not. They may have inadvertantly dropped the WMA codec in 7.1 As noted above I have used three versions of os 7.1 with the same result - no WMA audio support.
As mp3 appears to be universally supported, I will convert to MP3. Some of my music files are mp3 and they work just fine on my 9900. Any recommended conversion programs to convert from WMA to mp3?
