Water damaged phone has bad signal

My 6 month old BB Bold 9790 got washed. I had it fixed and everything was working perfectly, except for the bad (most of the time non-existent) signal! I never had problems before the water damage. Now I have to place my phone on specific spots, specific angles and only then it will pick up signal with maximum 3 stripes. If someone phones, I can't talk to them, cause the moment I pick the phone up, the signal goes to SOS or Searching Network mode. I took it back to the guy who fixed it, and he replaced the ariel, with no success. Any other suggestions? I still have 15 month's contract left!

Re: Water damaged phone has bad signal

Have you replaced the SIM card since the moisture problem?

Yes, I did. And everything is working fine, except for the signal. I used the sim card in my old Samsung during the time that my BB was in for repair, and it worked perfectly.

Re: Water damaged phone has bad signal

That doesn't mean it's still good in the BlackBerry.

Why don't you try using another SIM card in the device and see if it improves?

Re: Water damaged phone has bad signal

O.K., so I tried another sim card, still the same problem, so it must be the phone.

And ... I found out that the guy who replaced the "antenna", didn't replace the antenna, but the memory card slot!!! He gave me back my money when I told him everybody says that the part he replaced, is not the antenna, so he explained that the internet antenna is situated at the bottom of the phone, but that there's also a type of antenna as part of the memory card slot. So he actually only replaced the memory card slot.

Gave the phone in at another repair shop, but seems they also don't know/can't fix it.

Any other suggestions?

Re: Water damaged phone has bad signal

Physical repairs are problematic, especially on a device that's been water-damaged, you just never know if indeed you've fixed all of the problems caused by the moisture or water. And, dried water in a device can leave behind salts and minerals on the circuit board, which can cause problems six months later and are not detectable today.

You might be better off starting with a new device.
