I am not sure about the backlight staying on while charging, but on the second matter, you likely have some apps running in the background.
Remove the battery and reboot the device, see how it keeps the charge.
And, read this: http://www.blackberrynews.com/2008/05/20/battery-u

My guess is you left the garmin app running in the background using the red "end" key. If you make sure you properly close the garmin app, it's likely that the backlight won't stay on.
I'm not quite sure how Mr. Sander's post was the solution to your problem but, hey...Mr. Sanders is a good guy so he can have my kudos.

Two Methods:
1. On the Clock hit the Menu key and select Enter Beadside Mode.....this will kill the keypad and leave a dimmed clock.....
2. Or you can hit the Menu...Options and under When Charging.....change the default to Enter Beadside Mode....this will kill the keypad and leave a dimmed clock.....each time the phone is charged....

I bought a 9000 Friday afternoon. When I charged it Friday night the battery (I assume it was the battery) overheated and fried the phone. I go t a replacement phone today and when charging it tonight the battery again overheated. I took the battery out until it cooled down and the phone seems to be working ok, but it doesn't seem that the battery should overheat. Has anyone else had this problem?

I've heard reports of batteries getting hot when using the usb port to charge, whether it was from the AC adapter or using the usb cable from a computer. I bought the bold 9000 charging pod from amazon for $12 (PN: HDW-16216-001) and it uses the extarnal charging points on the phone. No overheating battery from there.
And as to the OP, glad you figured out the backlight/keypad issue. My suggestion would be to turn on bedside mode as well. You don't need to hit the command button and scroll through the list though, you can simply press the B key and it enters bedside mode.
I've found in several apps, there are unlisted keyboard shortcuts, Like "previous and next" (P and N respectively) when scrolling pages at a time in long document/text/thumbnail lists.

Hi there,
I am new to the community and hoping that someone will see this request for help. I am experienceing the same problem i.e., the key pad remains lit. Here are the specifics:
- I do not have any third party applications on my phone
- My backlight timout is set at 10 seconds.
- This only hapends when my clock option is set to the display clock" mode. when it is set to the "do nothing" and "bedside mode" the keyboard light times out as it should.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!
