Yahoo Email Sync

Hello -

I own a Bold 9930.  I've noticed that my device doesn't completely sync with Yahoo email.  If I read an email on my device, it is marked as read on Yahoo.  However, if I read the email on Yahoo, it doesn't sync with the device - the device copy of the email is never marked as read.  I used to have full 2-way sync.  I contacted Yahoo, and was advised by Yahoo support that 2-way email sync between my device and Yahoo is not possible.  Is this right?

Thank you in advance for your thoughts.

Re: Yahoo Email Sync

Hello,

Please use this for reference:

  • KB05133 Email reconciliation features for the BlackBerry Internet Service

From what you describe, what you desire should work. BTW...Yahoo was technically correct in what they told you..."full" 2-way sync is indeed not supported (Sent Items will not come from the mailbox to the BB), but read/unread should function both ways (as per the KB).

Therefore, I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):

1) Register HRT

  • KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network

2) Delete and Resend Service Books

  • KB05000Delete the service book for the BlackBerry Internet Service email account from the BlackBerry smartphone
  • KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service

3) Batt Pull Reboot

  • Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.

Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you should try deleting and re-adding your BIS configuration for the affected email account.

Re: Yahoo Email Sync

Thank you for your reply. I've tried all of your suggestions, but unfortunately nothing has worked so far. I would appreciate any other suggestions you may have. TIA

Re: Yahoo Email Sync

Do you have other than Yahoo configured for email? If, perhaps, you've had your email configurations for a while, then perhaps the most recent version of BIS is not yet propagated to you. To make that happen, one must actually remove ALL email configurations, wait a bit (I usually say an hour), do the stuff in my post 2 above again, and then re-configure the email configs.

Also, how much time are you giving it? New email actions (send/receive) have the highest priority throughout all of the systems. Everything else has a much lower priority...I've seen sometimes read/unread reconciliation take 24 hours or more to get through...

I wish I had Yahoo configured for my BB to test this for you. But, given that the KB is the authoritative document, your next formal step would be contacting your mobile service provider for formal support, quoting the exact KB to them, and convincing them to escalate into RIM so that their engineers can get a look at it.

Good luck!

Re: Yahoo Email Sync

Thank you again for your assistance.  One quick point of clarification - when you say delete the email configurations, do you mean my exchange configuration as well?  Right now I have one BIS email (Yahoo), and then my enterprise configuration I use for work.  I've never had any problems with my word address.  TIA.

Re: Yahoo Email Sync

Only the BIS configurations. BES uses a different set of services, and therefore does not usually affect how the BIS services function.
