First thing to try is a battery pull. That is open the back, pull out the battery, wait 10 seconds and then re insert it.

Is the clock causing the device to freeze / run slow? Have you installed any apps recently when you noticed this? You're able to navigate around the blackberry menus, etc correct?

I'm wondering if one of these apps started the issue and it took a bit for the black clock to start happening.
Try safe mode:
Battery pull, insert battery and when the red light goes off, hold down the back key through the entire boot process. It will give you a message about safe mode.
Uninstall those apps and do another battery pull. If it works fine, then one or both of those apps have an issue on your device.
You can install one at a time and see what happens.
