I just noticed that pics on the internet and Bold advertising show the standard icons that come with the Bold have colours where mine are all just white on black, is there a setting for this, third party applications are coloured on my Bold however.?

The icons you see and their design is a function of the theme you are using. You will notice that third party icons stay the same from theme to theme, while the standard BB applications will vary from theme to theme. You can change themes... Options > Themes.

I am one of those who doesn't care for the 'monochromatic' look either.

If I wanted a retro BW look, I would buy a Zenith.

My Rogers Canada BB9000 come with only the Precision Silver and the Precision Zen Themes.  I've not found any others for the BB9000 on the BB or any other sites.  The Zen offers limited color icons but not all for sure.  There should be someone dabbling with this...
