gmail email fail

I recently changed the password on my gmail account, which I've done in the past. No issues with my BBOLD9900.

My email address is associated with the device, and had no problems in the past. Not any more.

Now I'm trapped in a circular loop of 'enter password' in email account management, where I get an 'Update Failed' message, and nothing else.

I've done the 1990's problem solving with it (powered off, popped out battery), but still in this circular, and frustrating loop of fail.

Anyone else seen this?

Please use plain text.

Re: gmail email fail

Hello,

Just to be positive, the place where you receive the error is after you've gotten all the way into the Wizard's setting for this specific email account, and are changing the stored credentials. Correct?

As such, you can try instead, from your PC/browser, your carriers BIS website (if they have one...you have to ask them).

Or, you can try, from your BB Browser, this URL:

Or you can ring up your provider and ask them to make the change for you (dangerous, IMHO, since it means revealing your email credentials to the carrier agent you happen to have on the phone).

Good luck!

Re: gmail email fail

Thanks.

And yes, the validate email wizard - with stored/associated email account - is where I get 'update failed'.

And failed it has several times since. I tried the www.blackberry.com/integrate link, no good. I accept the eula, then add existing account, and I get an 'invalid email address or password', despite that I can log into it on my computer and chromebook.

thanks for the assist though. is there level 2 help accessible on this site?

Re: gmail email fail

on the upshot, RIM sent me an email congratulating me on having my BIS active. It also provides a handy link to the accepoted eula for my reference.

on the downside, I get straight back to the failed validation dare I try to compose an email.  :Dots:

You did not try your PC/Browser and your carriers BIS website, I see? You also should consider contacting them (your carrier) as they are responsible for 100% of your formal support. Indeed...

I'm not sure I understand that bit..."dare"???

In any event, something about your BIS account seems to be messed up somehow. I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):

1) Register HRT

  • KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
  • Please wait for one "registration" message to arrive to your Messages app

2) Delete and Resend Service Books

  • KB05000Delete the service book for the BlackBerry Internet Service email account from the BlackBerry smartphone
  • If you have no CMIME entry, then skip the deletion
  • KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
  • Please wait for "Activation" Messages, one per already configured email account, to arrive in your Messages. If you have no already configured email accounts, please wait 1 hour.

3) Batt Pull Reboot

  • With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.

Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you should try deleting and re-adding your BIS configuration for the affected email accounts. Otherwise, you should contact your mobile service provider for formal support.

Good luck!

Re: gmail email fail

'Dare' simply means to 'try' :smileyhappy:

And, all of the preceding did not work. From tech support, going to do a wipe and reinstall after a backup. Brutal.

That still may not work apparently, so a return for service is possible.

Thanks anyway for the input.

OK...so you are now into the formal support channel. As such, I will back away and let that continue...

Good luck!
