Hi,

I upgraded from my Bold 9000 to the Bold 9700 and now Japanese Input is not working anymore. I installed several eastAsia packages from different providers and its possible to read Japanese but when I am trying to choose Japanese as input language on my 9700 its switching back to the language before. korean and thai are working without any problem.

It seems to be that this problem only occures on Blackberry's with a QWERTZ keyboard. We tested it from several carrier (O2 Germany, O2 Szech and T-Mobile Germany [all have QWERTZ keyboard]).

Currently installed OS: v5.0.0.593 (Bundle 1022, Platform 5.1.0.147)

Please let me know if you are aware of this problem. If you need further information please let me know. This is kind of important to carry on with the 9700.

Hi bert2002,

Please check the software for the 9700 from within your application loader to ensure input support is listed for Japanese input support is not listed for Japanese, then you will be unable to type in Japanese. All language support for devices is only available from the wireless carrier.

Hi Frankie,

yeah input for japanese is shown in the application loader and is activated. I can also see it on my Blackberry. Something is really fishy.Later I can provide you screenshots.

Experiencing exactly the same problem on a French AZERTY keyboard 9700 Blackberry.

Japanese input isn't possible.

Japanese romaji input support is installed and shows in the Alt+Enter input language list, but when you select Japanese it jumps back to the previously selected language.

I have been using 9700jEastAsia_PBr5.0.0_rel554_PL5.1.0.98_A5.0.0.351_Telstra.exe. This works perfectly on our Vodafone UK handsets. But when I try on this Vodafone SFR handset this problem occurs.

Vodafone SFR don't have an East Asia device software release. I tried an East Asia one from Orange France, (9700EastAsia_PBr5.0.0_rel554_PL5.1.0.98_A5.0.0.351_Orange_France.exe) thinking this would be the solution as it must be designed from AZERTY keyboards, but oddly that completely fails in a different way. Japanese input is available to install in loader.exe and appears to install with no problem. But the on the handset itself there is no sign of it. "Nihongo" doesn't appear in the input language list.

Getting Japanese input working on non-QWERTY devices must be something of a niche problem, but there must be a solution. Has anyone found it?

I've got the same trouble.

Strangely, japanese input was working well on the Bold 9000; only I had the same issues with Korean input there (can't get it all I guess).

I can confirm that we do not have this problem on devices with QWERTY-keyboards from the Netherlands. - Anyone knows a vendor for QWERTY-Blackberrys in Germany?

I have the same problem with my blackberry 9700 (Swisscom, QWERTZ keyboard). 

OS is "9700jAllLang_PBr5.0.0_rel994_PL5.1.0.146_A5.0.0.586_Orange_France".

Anyone can resolve this problem?

Hi

I can confirm the same problem with a Blackberry Curve 8520, also with qwertz keyboard.

I can install japanese font & input support, it shows up in the language menu on the blackberry.

but when i switch to Japanese Input method, it jumps back to the previous input method.

All other asian languages like chinese and korean works (read & write)
