sorry but this is not the solution of this thread. Here we are talkin about the Blackberry 9700 but have fun with working japanese input

Did you try a 4.6 OS for the blackberry 9700? i believe there is a bug with japanese input for qwertz layout with 5.0 OS only

RIM OS 4.6 is not supporting the Blackberry 9700 as I know.

I see, thats too bad, sorry i couldnt help.

Lucky i didnt get the Bold 9700 then, my gf wouldn't be happy to know she can't write japanese because of qwertz layout.

I hope RIM fixes this for the 5.0 OS soon. I believe that when they fix for your bold 9700, it will also be fixed for me. so i can use the 5.0 OS too. the old 4.6OS  doesnt look visually as nice as the 5.0 OS

I also moved from the 9000 to the 9700 and got desperate about this issue.

I installed 

Package Version: 5.0.0.1254
Consisting of:

• Applications: 5.0.0.743
• Software Platform: 5.1.0.165

But whenever choosing Nihongo it jumps back to the former language.

I am also using a German T-Mobile device with QWERTZ - and hope that BB get this solved real soon.

I have news!

I got a new white Blackberry 9700  (T-Mobile Germany QWERTZ) and directly upgraded to the latest firmware of Hong Kong CSL.

NOW Japanese input is working with the QWERTZ keyboard.

File: 9700jEastAsia_PBr5.0.0_rel1446_PL5.1.0.175_A5.0.0.862_CSL_Limited_customers.exe

I dont know if the new firmware was the key or the white Blackberry. I will now upgrade my Black Blackberry and see if its working too.

UPDATE: is working with the black Blackberry 9700 too. So its defently fixed in the firmware. after nearly one year...

I've just updated the firmware above and I can input Japanese now with my Blackberry 9700 (Swisscom, QWERTZ keyboard, color black)!

I have a problem. I can now input japanese but mail and sms receivers cannot read. (neither by phone or by PC). All caracters were "?".

Do you have the same problem with your BB 9700, or can anyone solve this?
