Re: my BB is dead

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

To prepare (insert plenty of PC reboots as you deem warranted):

1) Uninstall, from your PC, both the Desktop Software as well as any BB OS packages

2) Download and install, to your PC, the current BB Desktop Software

4) Download and install, to your PC, the BB OS package you desire:

  • It is sorted first by carrier -- so if all you want are the OS levels your carrier supports, your search will be quick. However, some carriers are much slower than others to release updates. To truly seek out the most up-to-date OS package for your BB, you must dig through and find all carriers that support your specific model BB, and then compare the OS levels that they support.

5) Delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:

  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
  • C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML

Now, you can attempt to use these tricks -- if any suggest using the Update Website, instead please use the Desktop Software:

Good luck and let us know!

Re: my BB is dead

Unfortunately, given the quantity of information we have provided compared to the quantity of information you have provided as a result, it's pretty much impossible to diagnose anything. Since you are a tech, please put yourself in our shoes...we have only the words you have provided here to guide us to understanding your situation. When you are supporting someone, you need to understand their situation as much as possible in order to be able to properly help them. As it stands, I cannot at all tell the result from any of the steps and tricks provided -- done properly, those processes can recover almost any BB that does not have a hardware issue. Done incorrectly, it will fail. And, it is very easy to do any of the steps incorrectly...but, from your very short report, I can't tell what might have gone wrong. (Note carefully what I said about hardware problems...at an internet distance, we cannot possibly diagnose those...we can provide you with various tests to run that could narrow down the possible causes to hardware being most likely, but we can't actually diagnose hardware problems.)

Good luck and let us know more details please.

Re: my BB is dead

hi

sorry for my short reports

i have to say that aim relatively new to blackberry

i did delete any blackberry soft ware from my laptop(windows 7 64  on a macbook pro)

i tried with the desktop software 7.1

i did download 2 softwares one from the middle east and the other is the O2 ireland and i did try both separately of course

the device managed eventually to connect and started to update but it reaches the reboot and gets stuck at around 70% load for ever and ever- i even left it overnight

then i wiped every thing and downloaded desk top v 4.6

wiped the vendor xl which was one file in my case

started the aploader

got a message that it failed to connect and a fatal error occured

i waited and ignored the message in the tenth trial

apploader started but failed to upload the BB OS i downloaded and it keeps telling me there is an error in line one of the app

apploader the continued to upload OS 7.1 and device shows the connection screen and it says all successful but device get stuck again in reboot

i made sure i remove and put back battery where its required and instructed

i dont think there is a hardware issue

if any one has anny further advise please help

guys i already a phone and this is not an emergency but it really challenges me and i want to sort it out

thanks a million

Re: my BB is dead

Thank you...I think I understand most of that (not all, but enough I hope).

I'm a little concerned about you choosing "desk top v 4.6"...I know that the download portals I've given you links to do not make that available. Unless you have confused "desktop" and "BBOS" installations to the PC? They are separate steps in what I provided to you, and the versions of each do not need to match. You should be able to use only the most recent version of the Desktop Software, and then add to it any BBOS package of any version.

You may also want to investigate the use of BBSAK (bbsak.org) to perform the wipe it is capable of.

You may also want to try the "Bare Bones OS Reload Procedure" to attempt to narrow down the precise causal item:

  1. Load your OS "bare bones"...if anything is optional, do not install it.
  2. If the behavior presents immediately, then try a different OS with step 1
  3. If the behavior does not immediately present, then run for as long as it takes for you to be sure that the behavior will not present.
  4. Add one thing -- no matter how tempting, just one.
  5. If the behavior does not present immediately, then again run for long enough to be sure it will not have the same problem
  6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until all things are loaded or the behavior presents

When the behavior presents, you know the culprit...the last thing you loaded.

If the behavior does not re-present, then you know that either step 1 or 2 cured it.

If the behavior presents no matter what, then you likely have a hardware level issue for which no amount of OS or software can cure.

Good luck and let us know!
