When making a phone call and "communicating" with an automated-operator you must often times press the "#" or "*" key(s):

 

How the heck do I do this on my Blackberry?

Just press the #/Q or */A key on the keypad.

 

For dialing letters, press the ALT key while typing the letters you need, such as 1 8 0 0 [ALT] F L O W E R S
