password malfunction bold 9790

i have set up the password on the device.  confirmed it.  all was okay then it asked for my password and it said it was an error.  yes, stupid me i tried 10 times the same password which i had set up a minute ago and the bb would not recognize it.  it gave me a last warning that if i tried it would erase my info.  i tried!  a blank screen appeared.  i removed the battery then put it back in.  the bb loaded then a blank screen appeared and a small icon (looked like a sim card) appeared as well with an X drawn on the top half and a line under the icon increased as the percentages increased (as if erasing??????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!).  I di not let it go any further and once again i removed the battery.   I called rogers and they said to back up the BB on the computer and then reset it and download software.  I do not dare put the battery back because i am afraid that it will continue erasing the sim card.

HELP!!!!  What do I do?

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

It's already too late...the WIPE has begun, and cannot be stopped. Indeed, by doing as you've done, you may have damaged your device OS installation completely, requiring very drastic measures to recover the function of your device. But, your data is already gone...put the battery back in, let it continue (if it even will), and take the lesson.

Good luck!

There are two kinds of computing device users -- those who have lost data, and those who will. You have now migrated from one to the other. Like insurance, backups are neither a reactive nor an optional activity.
