Dear all I have just bought a new blackberry!!! smartphone bold 9000 

My carrier is ANTEL in Uruguay

I want to use my device like a modem. The technical support in Uruguay said that this is not possible. What??? I could not understand because this service is one of the marvellous services that is  offered by blackberry. Thanks in Advance

This is very much possible. Check the below knowledge-base article -

Connect a computer to the Internet using a GPRS EDGE or UMTS BlackBerry smartphone as a tethered mod...

But before start using as tethered modem you should know how operator will charge you for data usage. There are some carriers that don't allow or required you to have separate internet data plan.
