Re: 8310 completely dead on upgrade

This error means there is no device software installed in your handheld. Just download and install new device software in your PC and connect BlackBerry via USB cable. This will solve the issue.

Re: 8310 completely dead on upgrade

I just encountered the same issue today while updating an 8310 from version 4.2.2 to 4.5 and the following procedure corrected the problem for me:

  1. Ensure you have installed Desktop Manager 4.6 or higher on your PC
  2. Ensure you have installed the correct version/brand of BlackBerry Device software 4.5 on your PC (AT&T brand for 8310, Verizon brand for 8330, etc.)
  3. REMOVE the battery from the cell phone
  4. Run Desktop Manager
  5. Connect the phone directly to the PC via a USB cable (do not connect via a docking station USB port)
  6. Run the Application Loader from the Desktop Manager and start Add/Remove Applications
  7. Verify that the correct PIN number is selected in the Device Connection window
  8. Verify that the BlackBerry System, Core, etc., software is selected for the update
  9. Continue to click Next until you come to the screen with the Finish button
  10. INSERT the battery into the phone
  11. Click Finish on the Desktop Manager screen

I realize this sounds rather unusual but it did work for me.Good luck

Re: 8310 completely dead on upgrade

Nice instructions, worked well.

The only addition i would make is that you need to put the battery in when it says r"econnecting..." etc as it wont move on until you do (a no battery logo will show on the screen)

Re: 8310 completely dead on upgrade

Thank you, these instructions saved me a disaster.    I stupidly said yes to upgrade by BB software and I got the 507 error.    I am off on a two weeks trip and this would have been my undoing.  I wasted 4 hours researchinga fix.  Thanks RIM!!!!
