I bought a Blackberryt Unlocked 9360 Curve but when I open the blackberry maps with wifi accessible, it appeals "unknown error". Please help me to solve it

Sorry to hear you are experiencing an issue with BlackBerry® Maps on your BlackBerry® Curve™ 9360 smartphone.

If you turn off your Wi-Fi® and use your Mobile Network, are you able to obtain a location? 

GPS® is a carrier controlled feature. Have you confirmed your BlackBerry data plan includes access to GPS services?

When I turn off my Wi-Fi® and use your Mobile Network,  I am still not able to obtain a location with GPS and Blackberry Maps. It has a "unknown errors" .  But the Google Earth works well in both Wi-Fi and Mobile Network.

I have open a 50MB smartphone data plan on AT&T. So I am not sure if there is some problems in my GPS and Blackberry Maps software. I have also updated my device to BlackBerry 7.1 OS but the problem is still there.

Can I delete the Blackberry Maps and reinstall it again on my device?  I have searched the Blackberry Maps in Black App but can not find the software.

So I need you help.

Hey hy1112006,

In Options>Device>Location Settings what does your Location Services display? If you go to Menu>Refresh Location are you able to obtain GPS coordinates? 

In what Country are you living? Maps isn't available world wide so if you are outside your local area, this could also account for it (see the available countries here).

If you are still wanting to remove and reinstall Maps, see this Blog post on how to use BlackBerry® Desktop Software to perform this action.

As for your questions:

1. In Options>Device>Location Settings: 

    GPS Data Source:  Device GPS

    Location Service:    Location On

2. If I go to Menu>Refresh Location, it displays "Calculating Current Location..." and after a while it says "Location       Upgrade failed".

3.I am now in US and I bought it on Amazon. At first, GPS could locate the positon but the Blackberry Maps had a "unknow error". After I updated the system to the OS 7.1, GPS can not locate and the Blackberry Maps still can not work.

So I am confused what's going on and I need your help.

Seeing as when you tried to obtain a location in Location Settings without success, you will want to contact your mobile network provider to investigate.

GPS is a carrier controlled feature and they can ensure your data plan includes access to this feature.

Sidenote, before you updated to 7.1, did the location settings function normally?

Ok, I will go to AT&T store in my city to investigate but I do not think it is the data plan's problem because before I updated to 7.1, the GPS location settings function normally and the promblem is just the map could not diplay at that time. Now both of them can not work after updating.

I think we have the same problem, I have update my BB 9380 OS 7.0 to OS 7.1 last night. And Gps is not working after update is installed,

In Os 7.0 my gps is working fine. hopefuly somebody can help to fix this problem.
