This morning when I turned on my BB Curve (t-mobile, if it matters), there was a message displayed too quickly for me to read, and then the screen was dark for several minutes and the red LED blinked. This was before I logged on with my password. I presume some kind of software update was loaded.
Now, the Alt key does not behave normally. Formerly, I could hold it down and simultaneously press another key to get the alternate value (a number for example). Now, if I hold the Alt key down, no other key responds. If I press the Alt key, an arrow appears on the upper right corner of the screen, and then I can get the alternate value.
For someone who has been typing on a BB for several years, this is a terrible change. Today alone I have misdirected several emails due to missing numeric values in addresses, and typed a lot of gibberish that I had to go back and correct.
Anyone know how I can restore the previous functionality?
Thanks

Hello and welcome to the forums! Have you pulled the battery out while the device was on - replace after one minute - Let the device reboot after 1-3 mintues and see if that helps any. I am new to the blackberry world and that helped me on different areas.
there are plenty of people on here that will be able to help you. It is a wonderful place to get advice.

I popped off the ring around the track-ball with a screw driver and cleaned the sensors. I also depressed the sensor on the circuitboard of the device with a metal tipped pen and things started working fine again. Rebooting and cleaning the track-ball had not helped until I manually pressed the circuitboard at which point everything returned to normal including track-ball clicking and having to press the Alt-key once every time I needed to use a number.
hope that helps.
