Re: BBM Using wifi ?

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

Regardless of pathway (e.g., carrier data network or WiFi), to use the proprietary BB services (including BBM) requires an adequate data plan from your carrier. See this for generic information:

You need to talk to your mobile service provider to see what data plan you need (from them) to enable the services you desire.

Good luck!

Re: BBM Using wifi ?

No...BBM is one of those BB-only proprietary services, requiring a data plan to activate it. You may be able to use it via WiFi, but you still must be subscribed to the proper data plan since it's still using the back-end proprietary servers and such, even if you use it over WiFi. BTW...some carriers allow use of BIS-services via WiFi (as long as you are subscribed to the proper data plan), but some do not (I've no idea which do and which don't). But, in any event, you must have a proper BB data plan to use the proprietary BB services, regardless of pathway (carrier data network or WiFi) by which you use those services.

Good luck!

Re: BBM Using wifi ?

Fortunately for me, my carrier does implement BIS over WiFi. I only noticed it after I upgraded from OS5 to OS7.

Because even when my signal bar is displaying "SOS", I can still use BBM, send emails, use the messengers, etc...

Re: BBM Using wifi ?

I can use BBM over WiFi. Even if I don't have a 2G/3G reception, I can still send/receive messages on my BBM, email, instant messages, etc. But you have to have your BIS activated first so that it will be stored on your service books and the application can detect that you are subscribed to the service.

Re: BBM Using wifi ?

It is done automatically. At least n my part. I didn't mess with the settings to do this, I just discovered that I can receive BBM without reception when I am connected to my home wifi network.]

Better call your carrier about this. As said above, this might be carrier dependent.
