Hi, I just got a new Blackberry Curve 8520 a couple of weeks ago and blackberry messenger has never worked. Regardless of whether I add someone else's pin or they try adding mine, the contact is always under pending. Also if I try sending a message to a pin on BBM it does not send, I just get the red cross. So yeah basically I can't add or recieve requests for contacts and I can't send messages either. I've looked through the forums and haven't found a suitable solution yet. If someone could point me to somewhere where this problem has already been solved or help me yourselves that would be greatly appreciated. Also, I tried a battery pull to no success.

Hiya!
Do you know if you have a valid Blackberry data plan? A generic data plan will not suffice.

I am 99% sure I have a 500mb blackberry dataplan from my provider (Rogers), but what do you mean by valid Blackberry data plan vs. a generic data plan?

Hi there!
Perhaps this FAQ will help understand the differences:
Good luck!

Okay yes, after checking out that link I most definitely have a blackberry dataplan so the problem must be something else.

Alright, you tried the battery pull already, I wonder if you have the correct service books for it.
Options>advanced options> Service Book. Is there one in there for Blackberry Messenger?

Unfortunately between your last response and this one I deleted my BBM in an attempt to rectify the problem but I can't re-download it at the moment. So my question is would this service book thing be there regardless of whether I actually have BBM downloaded on my phone or not? And if it is the case that it disappears with BBM deletion then I'll get back to this thread if it's still not working when I re-install it (which I anticipate it won't be)

Well, without having BBM on your phone. it no longer needs the service book for it, so it is somewhat of a moot point.
It may still be there, or it may not, hard to say.
Your best bet would be to check it when you reinstall the BBM. just make sure you do a battery pull once you install.
Let me know!

Alright Raelic, I re-installed it, still not working but when I checked the service book there is nothing there for BBM. I think you're on to something. So what do I do now?

ah, ok then, try this
From a computer at your carriers BIS website (usually provider.blackberry.com)
http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB02830
From the Device
http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB15402
Try that to get your service books sent to your phone.
you can also try going to Options> advanced options> Host routing table> press menu> register now.
