BIS stopped using IMAP IDLE

One particular email account on my Curve, always had near-instant delivery incoming, I suspect this was using IMAP-IDLE. Since approximately a week, delivery has slowed and is now running at the 15minute POP3 polling interval.

Other mailboxes on the same server are still getting near-instant delivery, I can't delete and recreate this mail account as it has a LOT of filters configured on BIS. I have changed the "name" in the config a couple of times to "give it a kick", but otherwise changed nothing.

This is my domain-hosted mailboxes, I've mailed the support people asking them if they've got any known issues.. but another mailbox on the same domain that I've created for testing purposes.. is getting near-instant delivery so it can't be a global issue. But I cannot get "Near-instant" delivery for this main account.

I've sent a couple of twitter messages to blackberryhelp, and am waiting for a response from my domain host. Has anyone on here got any ideas?

Thanks.

Re: BIS stopped using IMAP IDLE

Hello,

These steps may or may not help...but, usually, they at least don't hurt. With a strong carrier network signal (e.g., not merely WiFi), I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):

1) Register HRT

  • KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
  • Please wait for one "registration" message to arrive to your Messages app

2) Delete and Resend Service Books

  • KB05000Delete the service book for the BlackBerry Internet Service email account from the BlackBerry smartphone
  • If you have no CMIME entry, then skip the deletion
  • KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
  • Please wait for "Activation" Messages, one per already configured email account, to arrive in your Messages. If you have no already configured email accounts, please wait 1 hour.

3) Reboot

  • With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes.
  • See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.

Hopefully that will get things going again for you!

Good luck!

Re: BIS stopped using IMAP IDLE

Thanks - as I suspected then, nothing "obvious". Just one thought then, if for whatever reason my email host has an "issue* with IMAP-IDLE that's caused this..then presumably BIS would automatically resume using IDLE as soon as the mail server problem gets resolved?

Re: BIS stopped using IMAP IDLE

Presumably. But I have inadequate depth of technical knowledge to know for sure on that point.
