BLACKBERRY MESSENGER! PLEASE HELP

My messenger is not working. It was working fine the other night, and then it had the "face" implying that I had a message, but I didnt. Now, everytime I try to send a msg over messenger, it has the clock beside it and wont send. I recently told my carrier that I did not need the unlimited data plan, but that I would still occasionally use the internet. Does that have something to do with the problem? Also, the word "edge" appears in all lower case. Normally it is capital, or says GSM. I also cannot receive emails.

Reset the device (with the phone turn on) taking out the battery for 30 seconds and reinstall it again,
