try going via Email setup icon on device. Since you are trying to set up personal email, you dont need to use activation password option, as this is for BlackBerry Enterprise Server users.
also verify with Tmobile or your servcie provider, that correct data plan has been assigned to your BB. Alternatively, you can log into BIS by logging on tmobile.com using your phone# and pw.
