BlackBerry 8530 gets warm when talking on it.

I recently got a BlackBerry Curve 8530. After Talking on it for 15 minutes the phone started to get warm, wifi is discontinued and theres no dowloads on it what so ever. Could this be a serious problem or is this normal on this type of phone? My old Curve 8330 never got this way. Please answer this question so i can decide wether to send the phone back for a replacement.

Re: BlackBerry 8530 gets warm when talking on it.

Hello,

Here are some tests you can run to determine things...

I recommend that you attempt to boot into Safe Mode, which will suppress the auto-run of all 3rd party and add-on apps:

  • KB17877 How to start a BlackBerry smartphone in Safe Mode

It may take you multiple attempts to get the ESC key sequence (press/release/hold) correct, so be patient. When successfully into Safe Mode, see what happens.

If the behavior ceases, then think carefully...what happened just before this behavior started? A new app? An update? A Theme? Something else? Think carefully as the smallest change could be causal...and attempt to undo whatever that was.

It is also possible that your battery or BB has experienced a problem...to test, this sequence is needed:

  1. Obtain an known good and already fully charged additional battery...use it in your BB and see what happens
  2. Obtain access to a known good and identical BB...use your battery in it and see what happens

The results of this will indicate if it's your BB or your battery that has the problem. Note carefully please that "new" and "know good" are not necessarily the same things. While rare, a "new" battery certainly could be defective. Rather, the simplest (and least costly, btw) method to conduct this test is to find someone with an identical BB who has no issues...trade batteries and see what happens. You also may want to run these tests in both normal and Safe modes.

Good luck and let us know!

Re: BlackBerry 8530 gets warm when talking on it.

Everything YOU can do I've already provided above...you've not yet done them all. Personally, I would not use other than an identical model battery.

Beyond what I've already provided would of course be formal support, which is not available here in these user-to-user forums.

Good luck!

Re: BlackBerry 8530 gets warm when talking on it.

It turns out to be the same model battery in the older curve, I switched the battery, talked on the phone for 30 min and the phone was still cool. Thank you for your time and effort in solving this question.

Re: BlackBerry 8530 gets warm when talking on it.

Ahhh....so you indeed did have an available battery to conduct the battery swap test. Excellent. But, from what you report, you have only conducted half of that particular test. The other half of that test will even further help to determine if your battery was indeed the culprit...and, if it was, you can seek support for it via your warranty (e.g., they should swap it out for you for a new battery, at no cost to you).

I apologize for not marking this solved a year ago. (I was new to the forums then.)
