Blackberry Curve (8520) screen goes BLANK (Black) suddenly - potential battery issue?? need help to solve it

I was using my Blackberry Curve 8520 without any hassles for the last 1 yr but since the weekend, it has been letting me down.

 

With more than 50% charge still on, the phone screen suddenly goes blank and conks off. I had to open the back panel, remove and reinsert the battery a few times and then the phone reboots (rebooting takes normal time).

Sometimes I need to do the procedure 2-3 times, sometimes I need to do it atleast 8-10 times before it starts the rebooting. It takes anywhere between 3 mts or 15 mts before it gets restored and there seems no logic or reason to why it is happening.

 

I am told it could be a battery problem but I'm amazed battery does not even last 1 yr these days. Wifi and Bluetooth have always been off and I rarely use it for even surfing. I have absolutely no apps and only use it to check my corporate email.

 

Any ideas on how I can solve the problem?

 

PS: I just tried with another old/used battery and it rebooted at first go. Is it just my battery and do I have to dish out money for a new one??

Welcome to the BlackBerry® Support Community Forums.

 

I would suggest backing up and doing a clean reload of the BlackBerry device software as shown here: http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/btsc/KB11320. Please test before restoring any data to the device.

If this resolves the issue do a selective restore of essential data (Address Book, Calendar, Task, Memos, BBM contacts etc.)

If the issue still persists after the reload, further investigation might be required. To help further diagnose the cause, contact your wireless service provider or BlackBerry Technical Support Services for further review and support.
