Blackberry Curve - emails - wifi

Please can you assist.  I have a blackberry curve with I use in Ireland and is set up to accept all my emails etc and works fine.  Currently i am in the Middle East and have to switch off "data" and switch off "roaming", as my last visit cost €800.00 for 2 weeks!!.  How do i set up the phone to use the free WIFI at my apartment and not have the data / roaming switched on?

You need to leave data switched on and turn off roaming in order to use wifi while abroad.

Re: Blackberry Curve - emails - wifi

I thought that leaving the data turned on would still cost money?    Will this only download when wifi is available and at no cost?

Thanks

As long as you switch off data services while roaming your phone will use wifi when available but not the carrier network.

Re: Blackberry Curve - emails - wifi

Apologies, but I am not a technical person.  You are saying to switch roaming off and leave data on.  This will not cost a fortune and will only download when it has a wifi network available, and not use my carrier from home?

sorry for the questions, but due to the large bill the last time, i dont want to repeat same.

Switch Mobile data via roaming off yes.

Another option is to contact your carrier and ask them to disabled data while roaming.
