Blackberry messenger 5.0 problem

I have tried to install the Blackberry messenger 5.0 on my 8900 running 4.6.1.231 (T-mobile). The install from app world reports that it installed fine, but the messenger icon is gone after install. When I do a battery pull I get the 552 re-install software error, and I have reinstall the OS.

Does anyone know why this is happening?

I thought messenger 5.0 should work on my device with the OS version that I have

Re: Blackberry messenger 5.0 problem

Yes it should work on your device. After you installed the application why did you do a battery pull? You shouldn't of had to. After it installs check in either your Applications, or Downloads, or Instant Messenger folder for the icon.

You can also check to make sure that it's installed by going into Options | Advanced Options | Applications.

Re: Blackberry messenger 5.0 problem

Hi I also downloaded messenger 5 from BB apps. It said it installed fine except there is no icon. In my Applications list it is visible as v5.0.0.33 but i cant find it. I still appear in my friends contact lists and if they message me they get the red cross icon. I have upgraded my software and tried to reinstall with no joy, i then did a handheld wipe to restore to factory settings however BBM v5 still appears in apps list which Orange said is wierd as it should go back to 4.6 or whatever the previous version was which came with the phone. Its not in any other folder either. Please help im lost with out it xx

Re: Blackberry messenger 5.0 problem

1. Handheld wipe does not remove software or revert back to factory settings. It only removes personal data, email, calendar, contacts, etc.

2. Do you have an Instant Messaging folder? Did you look there?

3. Is is hidden? From the homescreen, press Menu > show all, so that show all is checked. Look ALL over again.

4. Go to Options > Advanced > Applications. Don't click on the BBM5 app, but scroll to it and press Menu > Delete.

Reboot the device. With the BlackBerry device powered ON, remove the battery a few seconds and then reinsert the battery to reboot.

5. On your BlackBerry browser, go to http://blackberry.com/blackberrymessenger

download again and install the BBM5 update.

Check again now to see if you find it, in ALL folders, etc.

Re: Blackberry messenger 5.0 problem

No, the restore won't revert the application back to the old version.

I don't think you can load your old contacts from the old version using the Desktop Manager > Restore/Advanced, but it is worth a try.

Open DM > Backup/Restore > Advanced. Over the left hand window, choose File > Open. Navigate to the most recent backup IPD file and select the BlackBerry Messenger database.

Then click the arrow to move that data using the right facing arrow in the middle.

Re: Blackberry messenger 5.0 problem

I would avoid 5.0. After installing with no problem my blackberry now freezes, types backwards, closes each time an email is received among other problems. The only fix is to pull the battery and now I believe its time to uninstall
