Brand new battery problem

Hi

I own a Blackberry Curve 8520 for over a year now, and suddenly the battery only lasts for 7 to 8 hours max, when I'm not using the phone (No music, internet, SMS... nothing).

I only have 5 applications on my phone, and none of them are running in the background. Also none of my applications are updated automatically. I use the lowest brightness and I often clean the memory of the phone.

I bought a new battery (authentic) and the problem was still here. I also borrowed the battery from a friend's 8520, that lasts at least one day on his phone, and the problem was still here.

I never leave the phone on charge when the battery is fully charged.

I just did a complete wipe of the phone with CL Commander and reinstalled the latest OS for the Curve 8520 today, nothing has changed..

I'm out of ideas. Do you think this can be a hardware problem?

Thank you for your help and sorry about my English.

Julien

Re: Brand new battery problem

superbeasst, Greetings, and welcome to the BlackBerry.com Community Support Forums.

Let me make a suggestion which has worked for me... leave the BlackBerry charging and while still connected and still charging, remove the battery, replace and reboot. The BlackBerry hardware has it's own "battery meter" which sometimes gets in disagreement with the actual battery charge level. Doing what I've stated above a couple times will often get them back in sync.

Also, how are you cleaning your memory? You do realize that Memory Cleaner does nothing for you, other than waste resource (and yes, battery). Memory cleaner basically wipes to a higher government specification the 'already-deleted' memory space. If you're a drug traffiker or child p0rnagrapher, it could be usesful. The average user... no.

Re: Brand new battery problem

Thanks for the quick answer

I didn't realize that cleaning the memory could actually have the opposite effect.... I was so desperate to solve the problem that I tried everything to have my phone as "clean " as possible.

I will try your suggestion and let you know how it works !

Julien

Re: Brand new battery problem

Cool, turn off Memory Cleaner and do the reboot while charging as I suggested.

Also, please look at Options > Advanced > Applications.

What third party applications do you have installed there?

Re: Brand new battery problem

[ Edited ]

Do this reboot while charging 3-4 times over the next 3-4 days.

Don't let your battery drain down to 10-15% each time, that's not good for the battery and will actually kill the battery quicker. Top it off during the day when you can.

Re: Brand new battery problem

Just one question, when rebooting the phone (after putting the battery back), do I keep the phone plugged in? Or do I have to unplug it and re-plug it when i want to do your process again?

Re: Brand new battery problem

Keep it plugged to the wall outlet charger BEFORE, DURING and AFTER the battery removal.
