Broken Screen

Hi,

So i managed to completley destroy the screen of my blackberry curve by dropping it. Annoying, I know. There are a few things I wanted to know:

1) How easy is it to replace the screen? I've repaired screens on various Sony Ericcson phones with ease, but what about Blackberrys?

2) I want all the data off of my phone (like contact's pins, all the address book data, photos etc). How can I back it up using BB Desktop Manager if I can't see the screen. (My sim card has a pin but my blackberry doesn't have a screen lock)

Thanks,

nick

Re: Broken Screen

1. Not too difficult, you've only broken the lens cover, not the LCD screen, likely. Check with Horizon Wireless in my signature for a replacement, at a fair cost.

2. You don't need to see your device screen to do a backup. Just use DM and go to Backup and proceed. All the information you need will be on the PC screen.

Re: Broken Screen

Thanks, but I can't seem to see the part at the place specified in your signature and also when I connect my BB to the computer there is the noise signifiying that something has been connected but nothing comes up in DM. It doesn't seem to connect at all.

Re: Broken Screen

1. They have the lens screen. Call them tomorrow.

2. In DM, bottom left corner, does anything say connected?

Have you ever done a backup before?

Re: Broken Screen

Synchronizing with Outlook is not a backup (it is a darn good alternative, though).

For your non-connecting Desktop Manager:

Read this post for tips and help to connect your device to Desktop Manager:

Re: Broken Screen

Well I just somehow managed to connect to the device as "removable storage", however still not on DM. I connected to it yesterday so I don't see why there is a problem today.

Thanks

Re: Broken Screen

First off, reboot the PC and the BlackBerry, and try again.

Re: Broken Screen

I broke my screen about a week ago, Here's a site I found that has a video on how to replace the screen and has the parts for sale for about $30.. http://www.gethightech.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=XX2116&Affiliate=froogle

It looked like just the screen cover was broken, but it toasted the LCD as well.
