If you can change how the call log is displayed. Once you're in the call log, hit you menu key, and go into Options. Then go into General Options. You can change the Phone List View to Call Log.
If you want to prevent the call log from displaying in the Messages list just go into your Call Log/Phone, hit your menu button, and choose Options. Next go into Call Logging and change the setting to None
