Cannot get the Desktop Manager Switch Device Wizard to complete sync with Palm Treo

I have a Palm Teo 700p and I am converting to the Blackberry 8330. I get the Switch Device Wizard to start and it runs, collecting calendar records. But it stops and fails with 25 records remaining (total records 1771). Then I look at the Task manager and it shows both the Palm Desktop and Desktop Manager as "not responding". I have uninstalled, reinstalled, rebooted, hotsynced, and everything else I can think of.

HELP!

look at the first of the 25 events remaining. There is something wrong with it (maybe an attachment). Fix and try again.
