Curve 8310 All Buttons including Trackball have stopped working?

[ Edited ]

I have a Curve 8310 where the Keyboard, Trackball and all buttons on the side and top have stopped working.

I have taken the battery out for several minutes and put it back in, where it boots and it used to get stuck on the security software verification 10%.

I have reinstalled the Blackberry OS using the Desktop software (a full software install) not just a reset.  The unit now boots fine however the buttons still do not work, occasionally **** randomly will appear in the pin window where I cannot delete or change.

I have also stripped the unit down and removed the casing and keyboard cleaning carefully as I go, this has not resolved the problem either.

Any ideas, is the Blackberry now beyond repair?

Thanks

Keith

Re: Curve 8310 All Buttons including Trackball have stopped working?

Sounds to me like moisture damage. Even leaving it on a counter in a bathroom during a hot or steamy shower or bath can cause the keys to be inoperable.

It really is more common than you think.
1. Remove the battery immediately!! Do not attempt to turn on your BlackBerry.
2. Let the device dry in a warm, dry place for 3 to 5 days* (see below)
3. DO NOT "check it each day" by placing the battery in. Leave it be to dry completely. This takes time. Replacing the battery to check it can only damage it more (moisture + electrical current = disaster).
3. If the device is warm after the drying period, allow it to cool to room temperature before placing the battery back in.

*Suggestions on drying your BlackBerry in a warm place (open, with the battery out):

  • Place the BB in a container of dry UNcooked rice, and then you might also place it in any of the locations mentioned below.

  • On top of any dry heat emitting electronic component: TV cabinet or CRT, LCD, cable TV/Satellite converter box or plasma monitor

  • On the dashboard of your car on a sunny day

Thanks for your reply, the device has not been near any areas where there have been high moisture levels or humidity, I am pretty confident this is not the case for this phone.

Okie doke.

On the every slight chance that you're guessing wrong, the continued use and mixture of moisture and electricty will damange the electronic beyond repair.

Good luck.
