Re: Curve 8520: Reload Software 552

Hello

Have you tried the general things? Removing battery, removing memory card etc? Try booting your phone in safe mode, remove the battery and place it back in - when the red LED light switches off press and hold the escape key (back arrow) until the handset switches on, if it boots in safe mode you should be able to remove the faulty application.

Other than this I could only advise re-installing your software, the blackberry desktop software can be downloaded here: http://uk.blackberry.com/services/desktop/

You also have to download the software for your handset. You can select your carrier, and your handset (plus download the software) here: http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp

Download + Install the desktop software, and do the same with the handset software (once installed it will dissapear, this is supposed to happen).

Plug your phone in and search for updates in the desktop software, whether it finds them or not select 'view other versions' - select this and the software you just installed will be there, so you just need to install it :smileyhappy:

There is, however, a chance the computer won't read your computer - If this happens, or if the steps I have given you don't work, you will have to contact your network provider to arrange replacement.

Hope this helps

Re: Curve 8520: Reload Software 552

Hello

I have the same issue after unistalling the bberry  backup application I downloaded from bberry app world.

I rebooted the device after the uninstall process completed and since then I get the message Reload software:552

Tried several things I read on different forums but nothing works (booting in safe mode as well)

My device is not recognized by desktop manager (I have the latest version 6.02.42)

tried your steps, the "check for updates" process starts then ask for a device to connect the device is not recognized and I can't type the device pin either

bberry.JPG

The update process starts by itself when plugging in the device but I'm stuck with the device connection

please help

Hi

You will have to go throughthe process of reloading the OS,

This what I did to completely wipe my BB. I wrote this before starting and printed it off.

If your device is functioning, perform a backup now if you haven't already done so saving the file to a place and in a name that you can easily locate on computer.

I then uninstalled DTM and then deleted all other references to BB/Rim in Windows Explorer thus removing the OS for the BB from the computer in order to ensure that the version I would reinstall would be a brand new downloaded version.

Get the latest Desk Top Software
http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/?CPID=OTC-DSKTPSW&cp=OTC-DSKTPSW

and install it on the computer.

Get the correct latest version of the OS

http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp

and save it to computer.

To erase all the data on your BlackBerry device, complete the following steps. This option is available with
BlackBerry Device Software 3.8 and later.

1. In the device Options, click Security.
If you are using BlackBerry Device Software 4.1, click Security Options > General Security.
2. Click the trackwheel and select Wipe Handheld.
3. Click Continue.
4. Type “blackberry”. All the data on the BlackBerry device is erased.

On some new versions of BlackBerry software, the menu navigation is slightly different.

1. Go to Options.
2. Select Security Options.
3. Select General Settings.
4. Click the Menu key.
5. Select Wipe Handheld.
6. Click Continue.
7. Type “blackberry”. All the data on the BlackBerry device is erased.

Launch the new Desk Top Software on the computer

1. Connect your device to your computer.
2. On the home screen of the BlackBerry® Desktop Software, click Update my device.
3. Do one of the following:
* To download an update, click Get update.
* To view other available versions of the BlackBerry Device Software, click View other versions. If applicable, click another version. Click Install.

Ensure the new OS is the one you prevously downloaded.

Do not disconnect the device until the whole process is completed and the device has rebooted.

After 10 minutes reboot again by removing the battery whilst powered-on and leave it out for a couple of minutes.

Leave it again for 10 minutes. You should now have a fully functioning BB!

Re: Curve 8520: Reload Software 552

Glad you have a working device.

You've the learnt the hard way of the value of regular backups. I suggest you get your decice set up with the apps you want and then do your first backup.

Good luck.

Re: Curve 8520: Reload Software 552

[ Edited ]

The point is that the crash happened after a regural unistall of an official bberry application downloaded directly from

bberry app world and it wasn't a third party app...

Why did this happened and what can I do to ensure that this won't happen again with bberry "approved to download" applications???

Can't remember but maybe there's a recent backup file on the office's computer :smileyhappy:

thanx for your quick replies !!!  (wow)

Its not possible to say it won't happen again. App World apps have been written by people other than RIM and even if the RIM programmers themselves were to write them, its software and software clitches are as old as computing. Frustrating for us users, but a fact.

Re: Curve 8520: Reload Software 552

It sounds like you didn't install both languages.

That being the case, you will need to connect to the computer and repeat the application installation.
