as you know Free Mobile is a half MVNO so maybe they did not take enough care in selecting the correct input languages.
I advise you to install another firmware, for example from Orange France. This can be done by installing it on your computer from the following link:
https://swdownloads.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry
Once the installation is done, you have to make sure you can install the OS on your phone, despite the fact that you are not an Orange subscriber. To do so, using the Windows Explorateur, choose to display hidden & system files, and look for all the files named "vendor.xml" on your computer. There should be between 1 and 3. Delete them.
Then launch the Desktop Software, plug your phone, and do the OS upgrade. This time you should see the Orange OS, and will be able to proceed and select French everywhere.
