Curve 8520 no longer requests unlock password

Hi there,

I have had my Curve 8520 for almost 4 years now and today all of a sudden the password to unlock my device no longer appears. I am unsure as to why this has happened but does me no favors because now anyone can get into it. I have tried disabling it and re-enabling it but with no luck.

Please use plain text.

Re: Curve 8520 no longer requests unlock password

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

I am quite confused by your post. You say you have no password on your device now, yet the first thing you tried was to disable it...which, of course, would be quite impossible.

Please clarify exactly what your situation is along with the exact things you have tried, along with the exact results (we really can't interpret "no luck"). If you can tell us exactly what you see on your screen, exactly what you do with it, and exactly what the result is (including on your screen), then perhaps we can help you figure this out.

Good luck and let us know!

Re: Curve 8520 no longer requests unlock password

Hi
What I mean is I have a password enabled on the phone and always have since I got it. However since today although its still enabled the lock screen simply just unlocks without asking the password. I checked in the settings and the password is set to enabled. It just doesn't ask for it anymore when I unlock the phone.

And, so what happened with the disabling you tried? Is there a little padlock icon near it?

No there is no padlock icon after disabling the password. And even after I set the password lock to enabled it still doesn't show a padlock icon like it used to..

So it used to have a padlock icon, and now it does not?

Are you on BES? If so, go talk to your BES admins as they may well have made some change that is affecting you.

If you are not on BES, did you perhaps turn off Encryption or Content Protection since the padlock was last visible?

Re: Curve 8520 no longer requests unlock password

OK thank you. Please understand that what I'm trying to do is properly understand your situation...if I misunderstand it, I could potentially give you incorrect advice, some of which could be quite catastrophic indeed. So my understanding of your actual and full situation is critical to preventing that from happening.

So something has changed on your BB to change how it was previously working. Since you are not on BES, it then typically would be Content Protection or Encryption...with those turned ON, you must have a device lock password assigned. Since you can't recall anything that changed, we will then first treat this as "random strange behavior"...

Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness shows up, the first thing to try is a proper reboot:

  • With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes.

See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.

Good luck!
