Curve 8900 Wifi issue

I recently got a curve 8900. my data plan has no restriction on usage of wifi, however it cannot support UMA/GAN. my question is i am unable to connect to my wifi. my wifi is WPA encrypted, i scanned it on my 8900, detect it, add it with its WPA key, it shows as "connected" in "wireless networks" but there is a "white dash (-)" instead of a green check mark. the wifi icon on home screen s is in dim. i am neither away from the router, nor i have input incorrect WPA. i tried "battery pull", "disabling APN from TCP/IP in Advance Options", adding IP/DNS, making it to acquire Ip/DNS automatically, but still unable to connect to wifi router. any help plz?

Re: Curve 8900 Wifi issue

On your BlackBerry, go to Options > Advanced > Browser and set it to the HotSpot browser.

Try your browser to a website, for instance, mobile.blackberry.com

Does it work?

Also, you said "my data plan has no restriction; is that THE BlackBerry Data Plan, or what kind of plan?

Re: Curve 8900 Wifi issue

thanks, but changing browser configuartion to "Hotspot" LIMITS the usage of browser to wifi ONLY. even then, the 8900 can easily detect and connect to a "unsecured" wifi, but since mine is WPA-Personal TKIP encryption on Linksys WRT54G2, whereas 8900 gives the following encryptions for wifi:

1.WEP

2.PSK

3.PEAP

4.LEAP

5.EAP-TLS

6.EAP-FAST

7.EAP-TTLS

8.WAP-SIM

I would need to check if any of the above is compatible to WPA-Personal TKIP !!!!!!:smileysad:

Re: Curve 8900 Wifi issue

Wi-Fi connection is dependent upon your Network Providers preferences. I am with Orange and connect immediately, my wife is with O2 and never connects. Please see here for more detailed explaination. http://supportforums.blackberry.com/rim/board/message?board.id=8900&message.id=7061&query.id=280458#...

Re: Curve 8900 Wifi issue

Guys i have a quick question about my bbm
basically i'm on a O2 network using a 8900 curve- have a bb plan but cannot get on my bbm via a wifi network - I can easily brows the net but the msgs that i send via bbm are always pending and never get delivered...how does it work do i have to change the settings?
i'm currently in IRAN where bb features are disabled and just heard from friends that i can use BBM via a wifi connection - any ideas why its not working?

Re: Curve 8900 Wifi issue (Grey Icon)

[ Edited ]

i am still unable to connect my 8900 to my wifi router. i have done the following to establish a working connection but havent suceeded yet:

1. changed WPA-Personal TKIP key to WEP key which is supported by 8900.

2. changed WEP key to NO SECURITY on router's end.

3. repeatedly deleted WIFI Profiles and get them detected after scanning.

4. changed the option of browser to HOTSPOT BROWSER in the advanced option.

5. battery pull on all the above steps.

and its confusing that 8900 can detect and connect to my offfice router which is without any encrption, but cannot connect to home router! despite all the above. thogh the home screenshows the SSID of the router but the icon remains grey (inactive) and there is a grey dash (-) instead of green tick in connection manager!!!!

following is the configuration at present after wifi diagnostics:

Wi-Fi
Current Profile: *****
SSID: *****
AP MAC Address: 00:0F:66:2C:**:**
Security Type: WEP
Local IP Address: 192.168.1.2

Connection Data Rate: 48 Mbps
Status: Network acquired

VPN

Concentrator Address:
Contact:  N/A
Authentication: N/A
Secure Device IP:
Status: VPN profile is not found.

BlackBerry Infrastructure
Connecting: Trying...
Authenticating router: N/A
Authenticating server: N/A

follwing is the settings at my router side"

default transmit key# 1
WEP Encryption64 bits 10 hex digits
passphrase: *********
key 1: 0**********7
key 2: 2**********8
key 3: 9**********1
key 4: B**********E

MAC Address: 00:0F:66:2C:**:**

my router is a linksys WRT54G & my laptops, iPOD Touch and Nokia N & E series phone work fine with them!!!!!!

i would appreciate if an answer is shared by any one plz.

Thankz in advance
