Curve as a tethered modem - hang-ups

I am using my Curve as a tethered modem, and it is working reasonably well.  However, if anything funky happens, and sometimes for no apparent reason, the connection will terminate or hang.  I am only able to reconnect after pulling the battery from the Curve, and putting the phone through the reset sequence that happens automatically.

Any tips to optimize the connection, or reset the modem without having to pull the battery?

Re: Curve as a tethered modem - hang-ups

Thanks, that is the same instruction sheet I used to set up the connection.  The connection itself is working well, it is just that if something does happen (may be completely unrelated to the bb or the connection), I was hoping there was a better way to reset the modem to establish a new connection, than to have to pull the battery.

When I pull the battery and reinstall, the bb goes through a startup process (dancing hourglass) for about a minute and then "checks security".  It seems that after this process, the connection can be re-established.

Are there initialization strings that will flush the modem?  Is there a keystroke combo that will reset the bb?

Short version - how can I get the bb to reset itself (dancing hourglass) or equivalent effect without pulling the battery?

Thanks for the brainpower, appreciated.

John

My carrier has a special program to facilitate the connection (Verizon) does your carrier provide that?

Re: Curve as a tethered modem - hang-ups

AT&T has a Comunications Manager application, but I have tried to avoid using it.  I have heard (from the AT&T rep) that I have less overhead/more throughput and have more control over the session by connecting direct.  Also, AT&T would be able to monitor usage and could force me to change plans down the road.

Maybe I should go that route.

Thanks for your help.
