Desktop Software Download...and nothing?

Hello All,

Have just purchased my first BB and went to download the latest desktop software for my Curve 8830, and when my download and installation completes, there is nothing on my computer, anywhere?

It goes through the whole process of download and then installation like normal, and I get no icon, nothing is listed in my C: drive (where it says it's going to put it), not trace of any installation anywhere?

Have a toshiba laptop with Vista home...

Any ideas as to what I could do?

P.S.  I've removed everything, shut down, and tried it all again twice now, nothing seems to stick?

Regards,

Mark

Re: Desktop Software Download...and nothing?

Here is the craziest part....it's in my control panel, uninstall a program list...

So, I can uninstall a program that's nowhere to be found?

I must be losing it or am a complete dolt, but I just cannot figure this one out..How can you download and install a program on your C: drive and yet it be nowhere to be found, but you can uninstall it if you'd like?

Argghhhhhhh!

Mark

Re: Desktop Software Download...and nothing?

I have had the same problem, 8 times. I have downloaded the 4.2 SP2 desktop manager and nothing. I see the icon on my desktop but it wont load and when it does, it says there is a fatal error with one of the files. Any tips on what desktop manager I should download that will work on my Dell with Windows XP and my BB Curve 8310?

Hi and welcome to the forums.

For XP

First run this procedure to remove any partial remains:

http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB02206&sliceId=SAL_Pub...

When downloading the DM save it to folder i.e.. c:\temp. Its a self extracting file.

Download the latest DM 4.6 without media manager from here:

 https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=A8BAA56554F96369AB93E4F3BB068C22

Download and install the USB Drivers:

Blackberry USB and Modem Drivers ENG (DM4.6 B13)

  • File size: 16.988 MB
  • Date posted: 15-August-08
  • Download Software

Download and instill the Microsoft device driver:

http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/search.aspx?q=blackberry

Cold boot the PC, kill any virus checkers, firewalls, and if running AModem shark kill it.

Install and configure with the manual:

http://na.blackberry.com/eng/deliverables/3606/Desktop_enterprise_46_final_492866_11.pdf

Before sync:

Pull the battery while the device is ON, replace after a minute,

Let the device reboot 1-3 min.

Sync device.

Re: Desktop Software Download...and nothing?

For Vista,

First we need to clean the machine:

 http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB02206&sliceId=SAL_Pub...

Install the correct USB drivers:

Blackberry USB and Modem Drivers ENG (DM4.6 B13)

  • File size: 16.988 MB
  • Date posted: 15-August-08
  • Download Software

Install  4.6 with these Vista considerations:

1. Right-Click on Command Prompt in Start Menu and choose Run as Administrator
2. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Research in Motion\Blackberry\IS71 Connectors\MS Outlook Connector by typing: c:\> CD program      files\research in motion\blackberry\is71 connectors\ms outlook connector

3. Then type in the command prompt, type: regsvr32 MsOutlookConnector.fil

4. If the registration is successful, the following message displays:
DllRegisterSErver in msoutlookconnector.fil succeeded.
5. Close and open Blackberry Desktop Manager to perform the synchronization process again and Outlook will be in the list...

If you receive the error message DllRegisterServer failed with error code 0x80070005 - you do not have admin rights. So, it's important that you run command prompt as admin.

Install the Microsoft driver for Vista:

 http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/search.aspx?q=blackberry

When you are done here is the manual to start.

http://na.blackberry.com/eng/deliverables/3606/Desktop_enterprise_46_final_492866_11.pdf

 On the BB:

Pull the battery while the device is ON, replace after a minute, Let the device reboot 1-3 min.

Configure DM and retry sync.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks

Re: Desktop Software Download...and nothing?

Thank you for your help, I am almost there. One question though: If I pull the battery out of my BB while it is ON prior to the first sync, will I lose the data that is already stored on it?

Your help has been wonderful and I was actually able to see the desktop manager on my computer and it opened!!! :smileyhappy: I havent
